Safety Testing

The biggest challenges in creating a synthetic turf system are safety and performance issues. Synthetic grassEveryone wants a surface that will greatly reduce the injuries of synthetic grass, perform like natural turf in perfection condition, and be durable enough to use 365 days a year. Sprinturf tests all its fields on an annual basis with a Triax 2000 computerized G-Max testing machine in accordance with ASTM F-355 procedures. In every case, Sprinturf fields surpass the ASTM requirements.

Sprinturf uses Thiolon® fiber exclusively. One of our products is a 100% polyethylene LSR 8,000 - 11,000 DTEX fiber renowned for low friction, as two tests by independent European laboratories affirmed.

SECURITEST FRICTION TEST

Testing: Measuring the friction between a rotating weight under increasing pressure, to compare friction between Sprinturf Thiolon® LSR and a competitor’s turf product with a shoe sole of an athlete turning his foot with varying pressure.

Conclusion: Sprinturf’s Thiolon® LSR has a constant low-friction coefficient. High friction levels can result in “footblock” (blocking of the foot as the body turns) and can result in serious injury to athletes.

LONG SLIDING TEST

Testing: Measuring the friction of Sprinturf Thiolon® LSR (8,800 - 11,000) and a competitor’s turf in both wet and dry conditions.

Conclusion: Sprinturf’s Thiolon® LSR has far less friction - half as much in dry conditions - resulting in less skin burn and a safer playing surface.

G-max testing.

G-Max is a measurement, in part, of both safety and performance. G-Max measures the shock attenuation (hardness) of a surface. The G-Max rating of natural turf in pristine condition ranges between 100 and 135. Sprinturf mimics natural turf in all tests conducted (including G-Max), even after years of service, and Sprinturf won’t get hard like other systems.
